92% of Americans fail at their resolutions

Hello Business Minded people! Happy New Year to you and yours!

With the start of a new year, many people grab magazines, Pinterest ™ photos and craft supplies to get their vision boards done.

Others purchase a brand new planner with inspirational quotes to help them write down their goals and resolutions for January and beyond.

As someone who enjoys setting and accomplishing goals, I am all too familiar with these new year traditions and regimens. Are they helpful? YES, absolutely. Without a vision, the people perish (Proverbs 29:18 NIV) and writing your goals and plans down is vital to completing them (Habakkuk 2:2).

However, there is an unavoidable chasm between vision boards with goal lists and the actual manifestation of our goals.

A quick Google ™ search indicates that upwards of 92% of Americans who set New Year resolutions fail at sticking with them. That means that less than 8% will achieve their new year goals (source: UAB Medicine web page as of January 1, 2023 ) From my own anecdotal experience, the majority of people, including small business owners) who I have had the pleasure to work with over the decades, were prone to giving up on their January goals by March of the new year. That is 90 days or less, before well-intended people throw in the towels and retreat to their previous lifestyle and outcomes.

Think of a time when you set a goal and saw it to full manifestation.

Did you accomplish your goal immediately? Likely no. Instead, you performed consistent actions, over time, and edged closer and closer to your goal.

When it comes to small business ownership, many small business owners make grand goals and plans. They post them up on vision boards and excel sheets. Business owners draft full presentations for their teams and make Canva ™ calendars highlighting their business goals for the upcoming quarter.

All of the above, when properly executed are tools you can use to be successful at your New Year resolutions and goals. However, without some changes to your current routine, you are bound to fail. Yes, bound to fail.

Harsh? No, not at all. It is a fact. Your daily routines, as they are now, are set up to support and create your current lifestyle and outcomes. With no changes to your daily routine, you cannot expect to see changes in your lifestyle or outcomes.

For example, in the Fall of 2022, I decided that moving forward in 2023, I want to get up earlier each morning to allow me more time with God and my thoughts. I knew that this goal would not be easy for me, mainly because my daily routine included going to bed late, around or 2 am. With that current routine, getting up and being coherent and productive at 5:30am would be an unreasonable goal. One that I would not be able to successfully sustain.

Even though I wrote this goal of waking up early in my journal, and even told my husband and inner circle about my goal, I knew that my good intentions were not going to happen unless I made some changes. Changes to my daily routine.

So, before the onset of Jan 2023, in Fall of 2022, I began to make incremental changes to my daily routine. Instead of going to bed at 1 am, I began to discipline myself to go to bed at 12:30am. Then after a few weeks of that change, I further disciplined myself to go to bed at 12am, then 11:45pm, and so forth.

The incremental changes began to add up.

Additionally, I began to take steps each night to help prepare my mind and body for bed. With time I realized what helped me wind down and prepare for bed earlier.

These incremental changes, over time, consistently, have allowed me to accomplish my goal of getting up around 5:30 in the mornings.

ROUTINES

That is the bridge between your goals and their manifestation. Successful goal accomplishment comes when you focus on small changes, consistently, over time. When you redirect your daily life to include steps toward your goal.

No amount of journaling, affirmations or vision boards can replace actions. That’s a reminder worth posting on your vision board!

It is a documented fact that having routines can help you achieve your goals. So I want to share a prompting guide to help you develop your own sustainable success oriented night time routine. DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY TODAY.
